Fire in the Foothills: 2023 Central Oregon Wildfires

I created this map during an advanced cartography seminar course at Middlebury College. I am planning on presenting it at the International Mountain Cartography Workshop in Spring 2024 and submitting it to the NACIS student map competition in Fall 2024. The map depicts the foothills of the Oregon Cascades in immense detail and tells the story of the 2023 wildfires that burnt over 60,000 acres of the Willamette National Forest. To make the terrain I learned the 3d modeling software Blender and then overlayed many land cover layers using masks in Photoshop.
