Airport Market Maps
On the outbound traffic side, Bozeman is known to be one of the fastest-growing cities in the country. I found that the population within a 1-hour drive of BZN has grown by over 30% over 10 years, compared to just over 10% across Montana in the same timeframe. The Bozeman area’s status as both a winter and summer tourist destination, in addition to having a rapidly growing local population, allows it to support more nonstop flights than many cities of equal or greater population. If you’re interested in a similar set of market maps for your airport, I’m happy to chat at colman@colmanbashore.com.
These demo maps serve as an example of leveraging spatial data to demonstrate potential demand at an airport. For inbound tourism traffic, Bozeman-Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) is the gateway to Yellowstone National Park, which tallies more than 4 million visitors a year - primarily in the summer months. However, tourists also visit in the winter for destinations such as Big Sky Mountain Resort. The dispersed nature of the area means that the next closest airport larger than BZN is Salt Lake City, a 6-hour drive away.
